Having A Healthy Halloween


Its always okay to indulge in sweets, but while aiming to try out some healthier options.


With Halloween upon us, it can be very hard to avoid having a piece (or two…or ten) of candy during this week and the days following. What many of us understand however, is that while Reese’s Cups, Kit Kats, and Sour Patch Kids may taste amazing, they might not be all that great for us at the end of the day. Still though, in the spirit of Halloween and trying to live a life where we can still enjoy things in moderation, we here at Fit Club think its always okay to indulge in sweets, but while aiming to try out some healthier options. Read below for some great and easy alternatives to keep your sweet tooth happy while avoiding the high fructose corn syrup, excessive carbs, and preservatives often found in some of our favorite candies. 

Complete Candy Alternative

The first option to satisfy our sweet tooth can always be trying “Nature’s Candy” and having a bowl of grapes, berries, or melon to hold you over when the candy craving hits. Other options also include purchasing some dried fruit (apples, mangoes, apricots, bananas). 

DIY Candy Alternative

Some of us like to be able to make things on our own with much less calories, carbs, and artificial sweeteners than the candy’s we’ve come to know and love. Check out some recipes below for some DIY sweet alternatives. In order to avoid some of the bad things in candy, aim to purchase organic ingredients for the recipes below! 

Grocery Store Candy Alternative 

For those of us who want to be a little bit healthier this Halloween, but don’t have the time to make something or still want some candy this Halloween, check out these healthier candy alternatives. These options are good because they cut out many of the preservatives, artificial sweeteners, and coloring that we’ll often find in typical candy.

If these don’t necessarily satisfy your sweets craving, check out the organic section at your local grocery store or hit the candy aisle to find the best healthy alternative for your favorite candies while cutting down on sugar and calories. 

Compromising Alternative 

For those of us who have trouble letting go of the OG sweets (Starburst, Skittles, Snickers), it is still important to know that, at the end of the day, a little bit of sugar won’t kill us. It is really when we over-indulge in these things on a consistent basis that we’ll have more potential health problems. Luckily around Halloween, the candy options are often packaged much smaller so that we can have some candy without overdoing it. Just be sure to call it quits after just a few packages!
